Welcome to Wildcat Wrestling

New Wildcat Programs for 2008

  • Wildcat Veterans Club – New for this year, any wildcat wrestler that is returning for at least their 4th year with the club will become a member of the Wildcat Veterans Club.  In honor of their longevity in the sport of youth wrestling, they will receive a free set of personalized Wildcat Veterans Club warm-up gear.
  • Wildcat Iron Man Group – Also new for this year wrestlers will have the opportunity to receive a special award at the end of the season for becoming a member of the Wildcat Iron Man Group.  To qualify as an Iron Man, the wrestler will need to attend at least one practice per week for the entire season.

Tournament Opportunities

Early season tournament in Eden Prairie, Minnesota

  • While the Wisconsin youth tournament scene doesn’t pick-up significantly until after the holidays there are some early competition opportunities available in Minnesota.  For the last few years, some of the Wildcat families have taken advantage of these opportunities for a weekend road trip to the Twin Cities.  This year we’ll be wrestling in Eden Prairie on Saturday December 13.  We plan to stay at the Embassy Suites in Bloomington which is next door to the Mall of America.  All are welcome to participate.  Below are links to the tournament Flyer and the Embassy Suites Hotel.  If you think you would like to join us on this holiday road trip, you will need to register for the tournament and book your own rooms at the Embassy Suites.  Traditionally our Wildcats have done very well against Minnesota wrestlers.  Hope to see you there.

Mandatory Parent's Meeting

Wednesday, December 3, 2008
6:30 PM - 7:30 PM
West High School Cafeteria

We require that at least one parent be present at the meeting.  We will cover a variety of topics and answer any questions that you might have.

Practice Schedule

Our practice schedule for all ages will begin on Monday December 1.  At that time we will announce the groups in which our wrestlers will practice.  The wrestlers will be divided into groups based on their age, size, and ability.  For all wrestlers born after 2001 the season will start on Monday December 1st and end on Wednesday February 18th.  For wrestlers born before 2002 the season will begin Monday December 1st and end Wednesday March 25th.  Our regular practices are Mondays and Wednesdays 6:30 – 8:00 pm.  However, the practice time for our beginner’s group will be 6:30 to 7:30.  We will also offer a Thursday practice geared specifically for experienced wrestlers.  Wrestlers electing to go to the Thursday practice should be returning Wildcats with at least one year of experience.  The Thursday practices will take place from 6:00 – 7:00.  At the conclusion of the Thursday practices, the wrestlers are encouraged to stay at the high school to attend the East and West home wrestling meets.  Each wrestler that attends at least one practice per week for their entire respective season will be eligible for the Iron Man award at the end of the season.

Weight Lifting

Prior to the Monday and Wednesday Practices, the high school weight room will be open for use from 6:00 until 6:30 for all 7th and 8th grade wrestlers.

Volunteer Coaches

Thanks much to all the dads that have once again volunteered to assist coaching and a special welcome to those that are new for this year.  We are pleased to extend coaching opportunities regardless of experience level.  However, any parent that chooses to be on the mat with the kids must complete a coach’s application.  Anyone interacting with the wrestlers during practice that has not completed an application will be asked to refrain from doing so.  If you think you would like to participate as part of our coaching staff, please see me (Randy Stark) for an application.

Club Leadership and Support Opportunities

The Wildcat wrestling club is a non profit organization that is administered entirely by volunteers.  Currently the future of the Wildcats is uncertain as we are desperately in need of parents to assist in administering the club.  Over the course of the next two years we will lose a large portion of our leadership committee as the children of these parents move on to high school.  If you think you would like to be part of keeping alive an organization that has been active since 1980, please give me a call.  Again no experience necessary, everyone has something to offer.
