In 1980, a group of parents identified a need for a group in the West Bend area to organize support for the sport of wrestling. The West Bend Wrestling Booster Club was born. This group had a focus on promoting and supporting the high school wrestling teams and coordinating youth wrestling activities. As a West Bend West High School wrestler I, at that time, could not have predicted the future of this organization or the impact that it would one day have on my family and our community. Nearly 3 decades later this group has evolved to be one of the largest youth wrestling clubs in the state of Wisconsin with nearly 100 kids participating annually. The club, now recognized as the West Bend Wildcat Wrestling Club is operated by a sizable contingent of volunteer staff, coaches, and board members. Participation is offered to kids K4 through 8th Grade.
With participation in the Wildcat Wrestling Club one becomes quickly aware of the cohesiveness of the wrestling community. The athletes form relationships with their teammates that transcend into adulthood. At the same time, not only are internal family bonds strengthened but the camaraderie of the participating families creates an environment that benefits all involved. The strength and popularity of this organization is a reflection of the values of the people that make it operate.
It is my personal experience that this organization is far more than a typical youth athletic club. Wildcat Wrestling is a family fraternity that promotes dedication, work ethic, and sportsmanship while enjoying the company of others who support these values.
I extend my personal welcome to each athlete and each family that chooses to become a part of this very special athletic community.
